OPUS10 & SIMLOX Basic Course
This comprehensive course combines the fundamentals of spare parts management with basic simulation modeling, providing participants with a complete understanding of both OPUS10 and SIMLOX systems. The course takes you from basic logistics modeling through to Monte Carlo simulation analysis.
Course Objectives
By the end of this combined course, participants will be able to:
OPUS10 Fundamentals:
- Understand how to model Maintenance Breakdown Structures and Logistics Support Organizations (LSO)
- Model Stock and Repair policies within LSOs
- Understand the role of OPUS10 in Life Cycle Cost analyses
- Handle uncertainty in input data, including prices and failure rates
- Understand the Measures of Effectiveness that OPUS10 can calculate (availability, risk of shortage, backorders etc.)
- Run OPUS10 and select results for customized reports
- Understand when to use OPUS10
SIMLOX Basic Simulation:
- Understand the concept of simulation and when OPUS calculations should be complemented with SIMLOX simulation
- Import data seamlessly from OPUS10 to SIMLOX
- Understand the different types of Measures of Effectiveness (MoE) used by SIMLOX, including mission completion rate, risk of shortage (with time tolerance), resource waiting, and backorders
- Analyze simulation results based upon statistical measures (percentiles)
- Run SIMLOX and select results for customized reports
- Build advanced Operational Profiles
- Use time distributions for turnaround times and transportations
- Model time limited access to maintenance resources
- Handle deployed operations, random missions, and mission formations
Integration Topics: The course may also touch upon these more advanced topics:
- Preventive Maintenance Modeling
- Import/Export data between OPUS10, SIMLOX and different types of databases
- The mathematical theory behind OPUS10 and Monte Carlo simulation
- Understanding how basic logistics modeling fits within the Monte Carlo simulation framework
Course Structure
This course accommodates a maximum of 8 participants and includes comprehensive calculations and hands-on use of both OPUS10 and SIMLOX systems. The course is structured to build knowledge progressively, starting with OPUS10 fundamentals before advancing to SIMLOX simulation capabilities.
The exercises are designed to challenge participants who will work at their own pace, with instructor support available when necessary. Participants will develop their ability to analyze complex information and apply it to real-world modeling scenarios, gaining practical experience with both individual system capabilities and integrated workflows.
