Life Cycle Management is currently a prioritized focus within the Bundeswehr (German armed forces). One of the objectives for the armed forces is to increase knowledge and control over factors that drive either cost or performance (or both) of a defense system during its life cycle.

In this context, the federal procurement office BAAINBw, responsible for development, procurement and logistic support of German defense systems, is working to establish new methodologies and tools for LCC-analyses. The aim is to develop an ability to quickly predict and analyze how different decisions, in any part of the life cycle, will impact the total ownership cost of a defense system.

The Opus Suite tools OPUS10 and CATLOC have recently been implemented by BAAINBw with the purpose of establishing this LCC analysis capability. In combination with another software, a parametric LCC prediction tool that BAAINBw has been using for some time, Opus Suite will facilitate cost estimation, comparison and analysis in early design phases as well as in procurement, production, operation and maintenance and phase out.

Systecon will provide training as well as Opus Suite modeling and analysis support services during the implementation of the new methodology.
