The OPUS10 Basic Course is an introduction to spare parts management and the foundational skills for using OPUS10 for spare parts optimization across US defense and aerospace programs. This hands-on training course is designed for defense professionals who need practical OPUS10 skills applied to DoD logistics and sustainment scenarios - from readiness-based sparing and multi-echelon supply chain modeling to PBL contract support. What You Will Learn in the OPUS10 Basic Course

By the end of the OPUS10 Basic Course, participants will be able to:

  • Model Maintenance Breakdown Structures (MBS) and Logistics Support Organizations (LSO) aligned to US defense program structures, including organic and Contractor Logistics Support (CLS) arrangements

  • Model stock and repair policies within multi-echelon LSOs, including CONUS and OCONUS supply chain configurations relevant to US military programs

  • Understand OPUS10's role in lifecycle cost analysis under DoD acquisition programs and its application to PBL contract performance baselines

  • Handle uncertainty in input data - failure rates, prices, and lead times - as encountered in early-phase DoD program planning and LSA work

  • Understand the Measures of Effectiveness (MOEs) OPUS10 calculates: operational availability (Ao), risk of shortage, backorders, and readiness-based sparing targets aligned to DoD thresholds and objectives

  • Run OPUS10 and produce customized reports for US defense program deliverables and CDRLs

  • Identify when OPUS10 is the right tool for a given DoD sustainment analysis task

The course may also introduce more advanced topics including:

  • Level of Repair Analysis (LORA/LORA-XT) as applied in US DoD maintenance planning and MIL-HDBK-1390 compliance
