Design and Control of System Reliability, Maintainability and Supportability

This training course focuses on design and control of system reliability, maintainability and supportability, from design to disposal.

The objective of all logistics engineering is to find solutions that offer a system with the “right” dependability, meeting all explicit requirements, including budget constraints. When such requirements are not clearly defined, the aim becomes a cost-effective balance between operational effectiveness and life cycle costs for the end user. Achieving this balance across all phases of the system’s life requires a structured approach. That’s where understanding how to create a supportability analysis becomes essential. A well-executed supportability analysis provides the data-driven foundation for making informed decisions that align performance expectations with long-term affordability.

The course covers the following:

  • How to control the dependability of a system.
  • How to specify the requirements.
  • How to analyze how different design solutions, e.g. redundancies, affect the dependability and logistics requirements.
  • How to measure and follow-up dependability.
  • How to control dependability in a project.
  • How to increase dependability and operational effectiveness.
  • How to Create a Supportability Analysis

The lectures are supported by a large number of exercises.

Today there are a number of software packages for computing and analyzing dependability. During the course the participants will use some common software tools for computing block diagrams, fault trees and Markov chains. The course will also cover tools for analysis of reliability development – e.g. MaDCAT. Case studies of successful project dependability engineering will also be covered.

Who should attend

The course is suitable for anyone involved in a project where operational effectiveness is key to overall project success. The course is also recommended for anyone working in a field where the operational effectiveness of the technical equipment is of high importance.
